چکیده

Introduction Mesenteric ischemia is an acute disease, with fatal outcome in about 70% of the cases (1). Since the interval between the onset of symptoms and irreversible damage of the bowel is app. 120-180 min. (2), there is need for an effective and reliable diagnostic procedure which can detect early changes in the mesenteric perfusion. An early detection of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) requires imaging methods which are (i) sensitive to changes in the blood supply or (ii) susceptible to the net water shift associated with the development of cytotoxic edema. For this reason we studied (i) the detection of perfusion deficits in the mesenteric end-arteries using high spatial resolution contrast enhanced MRA and (ii) the detection of cytotoxic edema of the bowel wall by means of diffusion weighted (DWI) imaging. In former experiments (3) we were able to show the technical feasibility of functional MR imaging (fMRI) of the bowel with a 4-channel coil. In this study we are using a 32-channel coil array (i) to reduce image distortion and to enhance image quality in diffusion weighted (DWI) imaging and to further shorten acquisition time for MR-angiography (MRA) with the ultimate goal to improve the detection of AMI.

Evaluation the FLAIR Sensitivity and DWI Post-inject in Comparison with Delayed Enhancement T1w for Better Detection of Active MS Lesions

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, typically progressive and most common autoimmune disease which damaged the central nervous system. According to the reports in 2008, this disorder has affected 2 and 2.5 million people globally. While the reason is not clear, proposed causes for this include immunologic, environmental, infectious and genetic factors, and sexuality. MS can cause ...

3-D RF Coil Design Considerations for MRI

High-frequency coils are widely used in medical applications, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. A typical medical MRI includes a local radio frequency transmit/receive coil. This coil is designed for maximum energy transfer or wave transfer through magnetic resonance. Mutual inductance is a dynamic parameter that determines the energy quantity to be transferred wirelessly by ele...

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...

Dynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
